There is some Karoo bushes in between the cottage and the braai, so it feels like you are out in the open, but the cottage is right there.

The owners and staff was amazing. We had sundowners at the main building / bar in the evening, overlooking the beautiful Karoo hills. The view really is amazing.

The owner blows on a whistle around sunset, all the animals comes to this area then to feed. It was great for our 3 year old who enjoyed the presence of the giraffe very much.

This... read more lodge has a super relaxed atmosphere with the animals popping down to get a bite to eat right outside the lodge verandah. The food was excellent and there was nothing Franco didn't know about the animals, whose care was of the upmost importance. We're so glad Melman (the giraffe) came to see us off and I'm lucky my partner got in the car as he could quite easily have stayed. Would highly recommend the lodge for a little piece of paradise, with beautiful sunsets against the red mountains.

The animals were so calm and it was such a delight to see them being fed by their carers right in front of us while we were sitting on the porch. Viewing the animals from the evening dinner deck brought a new perspective to the different personalities of animals, from the skittish kudu to the regal Giraffe and the intrusive little troublemaking Guinea Fowl.
We had a good rest, loads of hot water, clean and comfortable lodging and spectacular morning and evening views. The type of "Visiting friends/family" holiday experience with the exuberant hospitality we have known as kids.

I cannot recommend this enough. It's a perfect stop off between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. We have stayed here as a couple, with our 4 children and the most recent trip was with my elderly parents. Varley and Hannalize could not have been more accommodating and kind towards them.
